Reflection:
God isn’t an aesthetic to display. He’s a Father to obey.
In a world where faith can easily become part of a public identity, something we post, share, and display—we have to ask an honest question:
If no one else could see my faith, no posts, no reputation, no social reward, would I still pursue God the same way?
Jesus warned about faith that appears impressive on the outside but lacks real life within.
In Matthew 23:27, He describes religious leaders as "whitewashed tombs"—beautiful on the outside but filled with death on the inside.
It is possible to build a version of faith that looks convincing to others while remaining disconnected from true obedience to God.
But real faith is not performance.
Real faith is obedience.
James reminds us plainly: "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only."
Following Christ is not primarily about appearance, language, or reputation. It is about a heart that responds to God with trust and submission.
Faith becomes real when it moves from display to devotion, from what people see to how we live when no one is watching.
The question is not whether our faith looks convincing to others.
The question is whether our lives are being shaped by obedience to God.
Reflection Questions:
- If my faith were completely private, would my pursuit of God change?
- Where might I be tempted to perform faith rather than practice obedience?
- What is one area where God may be inviting me to respond with deeper obedience?
Prayer: Father, guard my heart from turning faith into performance. Help me pursue You for who You are, not for how it appears to others. Form in me a faith that is alive through obedience and love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
